NO ONE TOLD ME

NO ONE TOLD ME DOCUMENTARY

No One Told Me provides a raw and honest look at the postpartum period, a unique time in a woman's life that is rarely captured in documentary film.

The purely observational footage of incredibly intimate moments shows the highs and lows encountered by parents Elise and Marc as they adapt to life with a baby.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

I made this film after becoming a mother in 2018 and being totally unprepared for how hard those first weeks and months of motherhood are. Initially I thought it was just me. I thought that I was having a hard time because something was wrong with me. When I realized that most women struggle with the transition into motherhood, the idea for No One Told Me was born. A film that observes one woman from birth, through the first days and weeks postpartum. Allowing the viewer to experience the many raw and tender moments alongside the mew mother.

Hello world

This film is a testament to the fact that as humans we have so much more in common than we think and that we are not as alone as we feel. The power of being vulnerable is to show others that it is safe to share and that it is safe to feel it all. My hope is that No One Told Me contributes to new mothers and their villages to feel deeper into what's needed during the postpartum time. Creating new traditions and support systems that allow new mothers to feel safe and loved and held.

Viewers about No One Told Me

I am the mother of two boys and it was so refreshing, encouraging and supportive to watch another woman in a postpartum situation that felt at times, so similar to my own and that normalises everything that comes along with having a baby. So much love for this documentary!

I was moved, and in all honesty, realized that I have much healing to do regarding postpartum depression trauma.

I would urge every birth-and-family worker to watch this film and incorporate it into your practice.

Throughout my years of practice in Midwifery, I spent a great deal of time trying to prepare mothers and families for postpartum. I only wish I could have had this film as part of that preparation as there is nothing like the visceral and visual presentation of lived reality when it comes to generating attention and response

I am in awe of this documentary. It is very rare to see any real-life experiences of postpartum on screen, particularly the hard parts and this documentary managed to do it so well.

We cried at the rawness and laughed at the relatability. The world needs to see No One Told Me Documentary.

No One Told Me is a must see movie for pregnant people, parenting people or anyone supporting a birthing person!
